Marble Countertops and How You Can Decide if Marble is the Right Stone for You

Marble is a favorite stone for clients here at Arista Stones. Homeowners, designers, and fabricators alike love marble, and for good reason.

It is formed when limestone is exposed to heat and pressure in the earth. It is often mined in Italy.

Marble is a stunning and classic countertop. Although it is high maintenance, it also has many benefits and is incredibly durable if cared for properly. Marble comes in a variety of colors and patterns.

Marble is ancient, luxurious, and can be on the pricy side. Our sales associates will always work with you to find the correct stone for your lifestyle. If you determine that marble is that stone, that is wonderful and we have a beautiful selection for you to choose from. If Marble does not work for your lifestyle, there are alternatives that our associates will be happy to show you.

Because marble is a natural stone, it is porous and soft. While it is softer than granite and more susceptible to staining and etching, this also gives fabricators more flexibility when creating edges and other design elements. On that same note, marble may not be the best choice for a countertop material that is bound to have significant traffic.

There is a reason why sculptors have used marble for centuries. It is soft, yet bound to hold up for a length of time with proper maintenance.

Maintenance looks like:

  • Avoid getting acidic substances on the countertops

  • Clean the space regularly with a gentle soap

  • Seal the countertops annually

  • Work on stains right away

If you find that marble may not be a great option for your lifestyle, quartz makes for an excellent option.

Quartz is an engineered material, designed to look like marble. Quartz is often crafted from a white material, with a marble esq. veining.

Quartz is less expensive than marble, it is lower maintenance and can be a better option for those high-traffic areas. Not to mention, quartz is unique, and absolutely trending right now in the design space. We don’t see it going out of style anytime soon.

Some of our most popular marble options include:

  • Carrara White

  • Ice White

  • Panda White
