How to Clean Engineered Stone Countertops

What is engineered stone?

The most popular Arista Stones slabs for both residential and commercial projects are engineered stones like quartz. Quartz was developed in the 1960s and has been a favorite material ever since.

Quartz slabs are created by blending quartz with polymers, pigment and resin. From there, the mixtures are poured into molds and evenly poured to ensure a flat surface.

You may think that the next step is to let the mixture dry into quartz slabs, but they need to have extreme pressure implemented. This will allow each part of the mixture to compress so that all of the material binds together.

After the extreme pressure is implemented, the slabs are heated and dried. This step increases the hardness of the slab.

From there, any final touches are added such as polishing the slabs and ensuring that the quality of them is up to par. Here at Arista Stones, we pride ourselves in the quality of the material in our inventory. The materials on our shelves are up to industry standards, and we do not accept anything less.

Benefits of Engineered Stone

There are many benefits to utilizing an engineered stone like quartz.

  1. Quartz comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Quartz often emulates a marble color and veining. With the development of digitally printed quartz, we keep blue, brown, and multi-color quartz in our stock.

  2. Quartz can be considered environmentally friendly because it withstands the test of time. Because it is so hard, if it is well maintained, you can expect to keep it in your home for years.

  3. Although homeowners often assume that quartz can only be made into countertops, this is not true. Quartz can be fabricated into tables, backsplash, and more. You can get incredibly creative with quartz.

  4. Quartz is a more affordable material next to natural stones.

  5. Quartz is relatively easy to maintain. We’ll get to that below!

Cleaning and Maintaining Engineered Stone

Because quartz is engineered, it is nonporous which means that it does not have micro-holes that need to be sealed- like natural stones do. Because quartz does not have pores, it does not host bacteria in those pores. Quartz countertops are generally stain, scratch and etch resistant (although not necessarily heat resistant). We recommend keeping your quartz countertops clean with soap and water. Abrasive cleaners such as bleach or other harsh and acidic chemicals should be avoided.

Final Thoughts

Going the engineered stone route for both residential and commercial projects is typically a solid choice. Quartz is easy to maintain, inexpensive compared to other options and aesthetically pleasing.
